VT1 Gym had a great team of BJJ competitors head to the Sydney Uni Aquatic Centre for the Abu Dhabi Trials on Saturday. We had a number of guys and girls competing all the way from the white to brown/black divisions.

In the non-trials events we had several students win a number of exciting matches including blue belt Max Gran who took Gold in the U85kg division and Brown Belt Brent Burgess winning Gold in the U79kg division.

In the pro trials events, the VT1 team competed well and came close to earning the ticket to the competition in Abu Dhabi. A couple of members of our affiliate gym Gracie Sydney won their divisions so congratulations to them.

Some of the highlights of the day included White Belt Rodney Kouchak beating two larger opponents in the Open division. Also Brown Belt Elan Rubenstein took out a Black Belt by 2 points in the opening round before losing a tough match to another Black Belt in the Semi-Finals. Lastly in his first Brown Belt competition Max Williams-Forbes gave one of Australia’s top BJJ competitors Kit Dale one of the toughest matches of the day.

Congratulations to everyone that competed, we look forward to seeing you back on the mat.
